I am a Ph.D. student and a research assistant at Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) in the Bridging AI and Neuroscience (BrAIN) group. I am advised by Dr. Mariya Toneva and co-adivsed by Dr. Krishna P. Gummadi. My research interests lie at the intersection between Machine Learning and Neuroscience. The goal is to investigate and develop brain-inspired machine learning systems as well as gain a better understanding of how the brain processes information using machine learning methods.
I completed my Master’s degree in Computer Science at Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil. I was advised by Dr. Soraia Musse (PUCRS) and co-advised by Dr. Adriano Veloso (UFMG). My Master’s research focused on mitigating biases in facial analysis systems.
During my Master’s I held two research intern positions, one at Google Brain in Warsaw (Poland), and another at MPI-SWS in Saarbrücken (Germany). In the former I worked with computer vision problems, and the latter I worked with robustness to adversarial attacks.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Computer Engineer at PUCRS, Brazil, in 2020. I received several awards for my academic excellence, including the Engineer of the Year Award (2019) by the Engineering Society of Rio Grande do Sul State (SERGS) and a Student Highlight Award (2019) from the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).
Prior to my Master’s, I was a machine learning engineer at Kunumi. During this period, I worked on machine learning projects related to Intensive Care Units (ICUs), and on the development of a Natural Language Processing (NLP) model for a conversational assistant.
